Wilson's fame spread to America in 2014, when she appeared on Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman who has a difficult past and becomes involved with Noah Solloway. Wilson together with Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson won a Golden Globe as Best Actress for a Television Series-Drama in the year 2015. Wilson stated to British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray an actor who could be each side of this story." Noah imagines Alison's confident and reckless sexy side. However, she views herself in a totally different way which appears to be dowdy as well as in the shadows, trying not to be noticed. She added "I believe that America is a moral country and that they are very judgemental. The way they conduct themselves on the show is horrifying." In 2018 Wilson quit her show in the midst of the shock of many fans but was cryptic on further details. In an interview with CBS This Morning in August, on CBS This Morning, Wilson admitted that she had a desire to quit the show, but wasn't allowed to explain why. Wilson recently changed her attention towards film. She was in 2016 when she starred in the role of The Pretty Thing in The House in the film I Am the Pretty Thing. Then, in 2017, she appeared as the cryptic PT Stella, in the sci-fi romcom How to Talk to Girls at Parties. To include more horror movies to her list of credits, she will star in an upcoming British film adaptation of The Little Stranger. This film is a supernatural thriller based on the novel by Sarah Waters. Wilson is also executive producing this film.
