Contractor, born in Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She had already experienced many different travels and different cultures at a very early age. At the age of seven until nine, Contractor was a student at boarding schools in London. Her family then moved to Toronto where she lived through the majority of her childhood. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that performing would become her profession. Dance was her passion for a decade. When she graduated from high school she received a full-time scholarship to at the University of Toronto, where she pursued a masters in the field of theatre, and a double major in psychology and sociology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year, she was awarded the lead part. After the show ran for 92 times, she was rewarded with positive reviews. The production was recognized as one of the most successful productions by Canadian critics. The actor was invited to enroll in Stratford's conservatory program, where the top eight men and four women are accepted for a 20-week crash course on the classical stage that she was eager to take. Contractor was guaranteed a spot in the next season of productions and was offered the role in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
